Suntory Beverage & Food GB&I – Specialist Laboratory Relocation

Harrow Green was appointed to relocate Suntory Beverage & Food GB&I’s operational laboratory from Stockley Park to ARC 1, Denham.

The scope included full decommissioning, engineered disconnection and reconnection, OMVES equipment support, controlled relocation of temperature-sensitive and regulated materials, and UKAS calibration of laboratory balances, the programme was also delivered in coordination with wider fit-out works.

The Challenges

The relocation combined engineering complexity with strict compliance requirements.

Engineering & Services Integration
Wet services, electrical loads, CO2 manifolds, gas detection systems and water supply (5 bar at origin) required validation and replication at the new site to enable seamless recommissioning.

Cold Chain & Temperature Control
Samples and materials across walk-in cold rooms, -20°C, -80°C, -150°C and LN2 storage required protected sequencing to maintain stability.

Regulated Materials & Food Compliance
Biological samples, soft drink and sugar-based production materials, and chemicals (including NaOH 0.1N) required ADR compliant handling. As a food production environment, plastic pallets and clean handling protocols were mandatory.

The Solution

Harrow Green delivered a structured four-phase programme:

  • Lab Readiness (April–May 2025): Service capture and verification at both sites.
  • Decommission, Relocation & Recommissioning (WC 2nd June 2025): Five-day sequenced programme including OMVES support and wider lab equipment transfer, delivered by two engineers alongside specialist move teams.
  • UKAS Calibration (9th–11th June 2025): Calibration of 21 laboratory balances post-installation to maintain compliance integrity.
  • Cold storage relocation was managed using five temperature controlled thermal shippers, recycled across approximately two shuttle loads per day over three days, ensuring continuity across all storage regimes.

Strict sequencing, engineering validation pre-and post-move, ADR documentation, and controlled handling processes ensured programme certainty within a live, multi-contractor environment.

Highlights

The laboratory relocation was completed fully within programme, achieving:

  • Seamless decommissioning, relocation and recommissioning
  • Maintained cold chain integrity across -80°C, -150°C and LN2 storage
  • ADR-compliant transfer of biological and chemical materials
  • UKAS-certified calibration of 21 balances
  • Full completion by project deadline.

The project demonstrates Harrow Green’s capability to deliver integrated, compliance-led laboratory relocations within live operational environments.
